The Mission of Morris Brown AME Church

The Mission of Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church is to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in the spirit of the original Free African Society. Every organization of the church shall plan and operate with an awareness that we must spread Christ's liberating gospel by thought, word and deed in the city of Charleston, South Carolina and in the surrounding area. We shall seek to increase the spirituality of our church and community by promoting the gospel as a way of life and not an agenda item among life's concern. We shall do so in a way that is contemporary and relevant, while being faithful to the essential traditions, doctrine and polity of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Our worship and our various ministries shall offer comforting support to senior members of our church and community. We shall seek to improve the quality of life of our community through promoting physical and emotional health, effective public advocacy and social action, economic stability and educational excellence. As the largest congregation in the Mount Pleasant District, Palmetto Annual Conference, and Seventh Episcopal District, we shall seek to serve as a model for effective Christian ministry for other local churches at every level.

The Right Reverend Preston Warren Williams, II, Presiding Bishop

The Reverend Charles J. Graves, Presiding Elder

The Reverend Joseph A. Darby, Senior Pastor
